Today we just received one of those shiny new iPads for testing and development purposes… oh go on then, it was just to mess around with photobooth and the camera!
Anyway, what really blew us anyway was the difference in performance when compared to the older model. In the past we were stripping down Rj Voyager scenes to ensure they ran well, however the device’s limits were still being pushed. For example, when all the modules are activated on a particularly heavy scene the GUI would become sluggish and audio errors would occur. The new iPads are in a different league, showing no sign of sweating over any of the scenes we tested – even when pushed.
Additionally, a while ago we spent some time trying to get video output to display the Voyager via projectors or external screens. This proved fruitless, but the new iPads come with video output built in. No configuration necessary – plugged in and it worked straight away.
Hopefully this doesn’t sound too fanboyish but it seems like the technical limits imposed by the current technology has taken a big leap forward. We’re really excited at the new possibilites and freedom something like this gives.
